Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fans have cause to rejoice as the actress is set to return to our screens with Mani Ratnam’s period epic Ponniyin Selvan. Aishwarya was last seen in Fanney Khan in 2018. The actress, who is extremely erratic on social media, took to Instagram to share a poster of Ponniyin Selvan and also revealed that the first instalment of the big-budget movie will hit theatres in 2022. As of now, it is being reported that the movie will have a part 1 and a part 2.
“The Golden Era comes to Life. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan PS1,” Aishwarya Rai wrote in the caption. Ponniyin Selvan also stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan and Mohan Babu.
Naturally, fans were thrilled with this announcement and let their excitement be known in the comments section. According to media reports, the shooting for the movie resumed in Puducherry last week and a majority of the movie has been shot in Hyderabad and Thailand. Ponniyan Selvan will bring back the Mani Ratnam – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan duo which has delivered hits like Guru, Raavan and Iruvar.
“Working with him (Mani Ratnam) is like going back to school, and whatever you’re saying goes with the territory,” Aishwarya had told a leading daily earlier. Ponniyin Selvan tells the tale of Arulmozhivarman who would go on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I, one of the most important characters in the history of India. Ponniyin Selvan is being jointly produced by Mani Ratnam’s banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
